Network cabinets (typically <31 inches deep) and server cabinets (>36 inches deep) are 19-inch standard enclosures designed to organize, secure, and cool IT equipment. Server cabinets house high-heat servers and UPS systems, featuring high ventilation. Network cabinets hold shallower equipment like switches, routers, and patch panels. Server cabinets are designed for heavy server hardware, while network cabinets are designed for networking hardware, such as routers, patch panels, and switches. Network cabinets are generally shallower (often less than 31 inches). Server cabinets are deeper, often ranging from 36 to 48 inches (900 mm–1200 mm or more) to accommodate deep, high-performance servers. Server cabinets feature highly perforated front and rear doors to manage the high heat output of servers. Network cabinets often have solid, glass, or plastic front doors because their equipment generates less heat. Server cabinets are built with stronger, more robust materials to support the heavy weight of multiple server units (up to 1,800 kg). Network cabinets have a lower, but sufficient, load-bearing capacity. Network cabinets often feature more advanced, built-in cable management tools to manage the high density of network cables. Server Cabinet is used for high-density, hot-running server hardware, UPS systems, and storage arrays. Network Cabinet is used for managing patch panels, routers, switches, and other network connectivity hardware.
