Fan-out kits are fiber optic components used to protect and manage fragile 250um coated fibers by converting them into manageable 900um or 3mm ruggedized, color-coded buffer tubes. They allow for direct termination of loose-tube cables with connectors in field environments without needing patch panels. They provide mechanical strength to the fiber, shielding them from damage during termination and handling. The kit converts small, loose fibers into larger buffered tubes, allowing for the installation of standard connectors (e.g., LC, SC, ST). The tubes are typically color-coded to identify specific fibers, making installation easier. A typical kit includes a fan-out body (furcation unit), protective tubes, and sometimes epoxy for securing the fibers. Buffer Tube Fan-Out Kits are designed for loose tube cables, often used for indoor/outdoor applications. Ribbon Fan-Out Kits are specifically for ribbon fiber cables. Outdoor kits often include additional components, such as epoxy, for enhanced protection against wider temperature ranges. Fan-out kits are commonly used in patch panels, rack-mount enclosures, and wall-mount applications to organize fiber, particularly when connecting outside plant cables directly to equipment.
