A Fiber Terminal Box (FTB) is a compact, protective enclosure used as a termination point to connect, splice, and manage fiber optic cables, bridging main fiber lines to networking devices like ONTs or routers. It acts as a crucial, often wall-mounted, demarcation point that organizes connections, protects fibers, and facilitates easy maintenance in FTTH and data center environments. It connects outside plant cables to indoor cables, often using pigtails and adapters (FC, SC, ST). Through the box, it shields fragile fiber splices and connectors from physical damage, dust, and moisture. Meanwhile, it manages fiber storage and routing, reducing cable clutter. It supports easy installation and troubleshooting for Fiber to the Home (FTTH) networks. Both wall-mounted (common for residential) and Rack-mounted (data centers) are available. Small-capacity boxes usually have 2, 4, 8, 16, or 24 ports, while larger ones can have up to 96. They usually comes with indoor (often plastic) and outdoor (often metal for durability). These boxes, sometimes referred to as FTTH boxes or fiber distribution boxes, are essential for ensuring low signal loss and providing a reliable connection between ISPs and user equipment.
